Event Invitation Dos & Don'ts

The invitation sets the stage for your event and let's guests know how to prepare for the festivities. You want to ensure that all of the event specifics are clearly outlined, so your attendees can RSVP with ease and arrive at your event knowing what to expect.

Here are some dos and don'ts that I recommend to clients:

Do:

  • Include all event logistic details (date, time, location, host, etc.)

  • Set a RSVP DeadlineSend out the invitation in a timely manner: Save the Date: 4-6 months prior to the event date. Invitation: 6-8 weeks prior to the event date

  • Add dress code expectations - here are a few examples:

  • Cocktail Attire (Cocktail dress or business suit)

  • Black Tie (Floor length evening gown or black tuxedo jacket)

  • Business Attire (Business style dress or suit)

  • Dressy Casual (Dress, dress shirt, blazer, optional tie and it can include nice jeans)

Don't

  • Exclude specific and important event timeline details. For example Cocktail Reception from 6pm-7pm, Seated Dinner from 7pm-9pm.

  • Make it difficult for guests to RSVP. Go with an online option if possible. People are less inclined to call or mail in their RSVP.

  • Exclude parking details, mention if valet parking service is available and any known costs for parking.

I hope these tips are helpful when you're crafting your next event invitation.

Cheers,
