What is your role in the event industry?
I work in sales, but we wear many hats in what we do. I sell events, plan events, sometimes even coordinate events/weddings.
What sort of events do you produce or you are interested?
Weddings, social events, and corporate events.
Describe your typical day?
Our team works in an office which I love, so mornings consist of coffee and catching up, and checking in with the team before settling into the day. I handle the wedding market for Culinary, so a lot of my day is geared towards reaching out / chatting with couple's, and hearing about their wedding plans. Since we customize all of our menus , the other part of my day is in the kitchen with chef writing various menus for clients. I love that part. We're a very close team so I tend to make my rounds often during the day to check in and say hi to other departments. An afternoon espresso has been the current trend in our office to round out the day.
What's the biggest lesson you have learned that you would like to share with those new to the industry?
Be open minded. When I first started I was an intern for a local association and then had my first paying job at a hotel. I've been in the off premise catering world for the past 3 years which is totally different than hotels and I love it. There are so many avenues you can take within this industry, be open minded to where this journey can take you.
What would you like to see improved in the event industry?
More vendor hangouts / brainstorm sessions / including competitors.
